Powering the Solution
With RuleSpace's Online Look-up Service (OLS) enabling Yahoo! parental controls, every URL requested by an enabled subscriber is analyzed for inappropriate content against RuleSpace's database. RuleSpace's database which contains 60 million URLs overall, resulting from analysis of over 1 billion Web pages performed every 60 days. Yahoo!'s offering allows parents to set various levels of access control, and depending on the access level set by the parent, access is blocked if RuleSpace OLS indicates the URL has been found to contain inappropriate content. If the URL is not in the RuleSpace list, the Web site will be analyzed.

Powering the Solution
Yahoo also uses filtering and web content recognition technology from RuleSpace to screen offensive material, primarily pornography and hate speech, from its highly popular web search which helps provide an effective family-friendly search experience. Using RuleSpace's Services to provide automated categorization helps ensure that Yahoo Web Search results most closely match the user's preferences and search query. Screening is performed when web sites are found and added to the Yahoo Web Search system, and the entire web search index is re-screened periodically to ensure that offensive content is accurately labeled and excluded from the filtered search results.
